Mom of the Month: April 2021

Each month, we are celebrating a member of FIT4MOM West Sacramento/Natomas for her commitment to a healthy lifestyle and dedication to FIT4MOM.

This month, we are spotlighting a rock star Body Well mama! Meet our Mom of the Month for January: Claire Ingel.

Tell us about who is in your family!

My family is my husband, Brian and son, Rowan (3). We also have 2 cats and 4 chickens.

Where is your hometown?

Zetten, The Netherlands (elementary and middle school), Redlands, CA (high school)

What is your career?

I've been working as a scientist for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife for 7 years. I started in habitat conservation/permitting together with Haley's husband Dan in Southern CA, then started up here 2 years ago in Fisheries Branch focusing on native fish biodiversity, conservation, and recovery.

How did you find FIT4MOM?

Through Haley. She signed me up at my kitchen table after helping me move!

How long have you been a member of FIT4MOM West Sacramento/Natomas and what has it done for you?

I've been a member since spring 2019. Being a part of FIT4MOM first gave me a solid, specific way to start working out consistently again. It then introduced me more fully to West Sacramento, having just moved with Rowan, and has since both challenged me physically, kept me sane through the pandemic, and allowed me to hang out with this awesome group of tough, amazing moms.

What is your favorite class?

My favorite class is Body Well, but I love Run Club+ too. I miss Strides 360 in-person also, it was a special evening group! My favorite specific exercises are squats and lunges, and varieties on them.

What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?

How quickly babies turn into people with personalities, dreams, pride, and OPINIONS.

What are 3 of your favorite things?

Being active outside, especially in natural areas, dark chocolate, and creative projects.

What is your proudest mommy moment so far?

One really good moment was when I got a report from daycare that Rowan helped and played with a new friend in his class all week because his friend was having a hard time with the transition. Another moment of mom winning is seeing Rowan wanting to run and exercise, and insisting on wearing his "running pants" in the morning.

What advice would you give to a new mother?

Some things seem impossible to overcome, but you will, cause you're good enough and strong enough.

Anything else you'd like to add?

I wasn't convinced that I'd enjoy FIT4MOM when I started, and I'm so glad that I went for it anyway! I can't imagine what the last two years would have been like without it!

We are so lucky to have Claire in our village. It wouldn't be the same without her and Rowan!
