Ok it's been a while since we have done a Mom of the Month (I'm blaming 2020), but since we are getting some "normalcy" back into our lives, I'm back on the Mom of the Month train!
Each month, we are celebrating a member of FIT4MOM West Sacramento/Natomas for her commitment to a healthy lifestyle and dedication to FIT4MOM.
This month, we are spotlighting an amazing mom and she is so close to coming to her 100th class! Meet our Mom of the Month for December: Shannon Behnke.
Tell us about who is in your family!
Dustin- married on 7/6/13, project manager for a commercial landscape company in Lodi
Zoey- 22 months
Marley- 13 years, my first baby and the sweetest Boston Terrier ever
Where is your hometown?
What is your career?
Floral Designer, The Bloom Lab
How did you find FIT4MOM?
A friend and past coworker is a member of FIT4MOM Sacramento
How long have you been a member of FIT4MOM West Sacramento/Natomas?
Almost 2 months!
What is your favorite exercise?
Abs and oblique exercises. I love feeling the burn the day after.
What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?
How challenging and rewarding it can be all at the same time. I always thought being a mom would be easy, but I've learned every stage is tough and you just have to push through because the good times are SO good and the good moments outweigh the bad... eventually ;)
What are 3 of your favorite things?
Lake Tahoe, hiking/camping/outdoors, Mexican food (I'm a sucker for a good old taco truck)
What is your proudest mommy moment so far?
Finally sleep training Zoey at 12 months. It was so hard for me to finally admit we needed to do it, but she did SO good and was trained after only 2 nights.
What advice would you give to a new mother?
When you're in the thick of it don't give up. Practice patience and don't get down on yourself. Mom guilt and mom doubt are SO real. Remind yourself daily that you're the best mom for your baby.
Every morning before class I tell Zoey it's time to load up to go stroller striding with our friends. Her whole face lights up and she runs to the car every time.
We are so lucky to have Shannon in our village. It wouldn't be the same without her and Zoey!
