Mom of the Month: April 2022

Each month, we are celebrating a member of FIT4MOM West Sacramento/Natomas for her commitment to a healthy lifestyle and dedication to FIT4MOM.

This month, we are spotlighting new mama to two! Meet our Mom of the Month for April 2022: Elise Soviar.

Tell us about who is in your family!

Jeff (dad), Elise (mom), Jude (2), Lennon (4 months)

Where is your hometown?

Ridgecrest, CA (where that really big earthquake was a few years ago)

What is your career?

Journalist - Dayside Executive Producer at KCRA

How did you find FIT4MOM?

A Facebook ad popped up during maternity leave, it turns out my first class was the kickoff for Natomas

How long have you been a member of FIT4MOM West Sacramento/Natomas and what has it done for you?

Almost two years! I could not be more thankful for this group. I was fairly new to the area and hadn’t made any friends, becoming a new mom (add the kickoff of the pandemic) I felt really lonely. This group flipped that upside down and made me feel so loved, supported and understood!

What is your favorite class exercise?

That’s a hard one… I like every class. Regular Stroller Strides is great, I have a love/hate relationship with Stroller Barre and Strides 360 is good for cardio (which is not my strong suit).

What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?

The support from other parents, I feel like I joined this secret club that no one tells you about. Whether it’s at the grocery store or at the park, there’s this new level of relatability. It’s really cool and makes you feel like you’re not all alone in this parenting thing!

What are 3 of your favorite things?

Dogs, chocolate and fresh mountain air

What is your proudest mommy moment so far?

While we were in the airport (and I was filled with angst about flying with two under 2), Jude decided to make himself the official airport greeter. He walked up and down rows of people and told each of them “bye”. People were laughing and saying how he made their day. I love that he’s a social butterfly!

What advice would you give to a new mother?

Be kind to yourself. Being a mom can be challenging, but it’s also beautiful. Finding a group that supports and lifts you up is a game changer.

Anything else you'd like to add?

FIT4MOM is THE BEST!! I can’t say how thankful I am to have found this group. These moms somehow made me believe I could run a half marathon (while pregnant), we’ve laughed through countless moms nights and had chats about all the things while our kids play after class. Thank you Haley and everyone for making us feel so welcome and loved from day 1!
