Mom of the Month: March 2022

Each month, we are celebrating a member of FIT4MOM West Sacramento/Natomas for her commitment to a healthy lifestyle and dedication to FIT4MOM.

This month, we are spotlighting one o four Run Club+ mamas! Meet our Mom of the Month for March 2022: Erica Bedir.

Tell us about who is in your family!

Husband Kadir, 5 year old son Rafi, 12 week old Golden Retriever Doxy

Where is your hometown?

Davis, CA

What is your career?

4th grade Teacher

How did you find FIT4MOM?

I first heard about Fit4Mom in a new parent group in Davis. Later I did a few Stroller Strides classes with FIT4MOM Sacramento. I found out about FIT4MOM West Sac/Natomas from my dad! Haha! He is Haley’s husband Dan’s boss.

How long have you been a member of FIT4MOM West Sacramento/Natomas and what has it done for you?

I’ve been an on/off member since 2019. I started Run Club in 2020 as a way to practice self-care through a really isolating and stressful time. I feel really lucky to be able to do something for myself and to send and receive motivation through the club. I also have really gotten in shape and feel so much healthier!

What is your favorite class exercise?

I like Strides 360 and group runs!

What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?

How much it would change me and my world view. I thought I’d be the one teaching my son, but he is in fact teaching me big life lessons.

What are 3 of your favorite things?

Coffee, PBS, and National Parks

What is your proudest mommy moment so far?

I felt really proud the day this year my son got himself up and ready for school by himself. It’s still not every day…not even most days… but we’ll get there.

What advice would you give to a new mother?

Moms, we’re here for the long game. It’s easy to get caught up in all the small worries and unmet expectations as our kids grow. Far too often I spent my time as a new mom impatiently obsessing over growth charts and milestones instead of enjoying the child in front of me and learning about his uniqueness from him. Every child develops to be who they are in the long run. They will have their challenges and many challenges are temporary. The long game goal is that whoever they turn out to be, we’ve planted the seeds for their positive sense of self and sense of belonging.

Anything else you'd like to add?

Come cheer on FIT4MOM West Sac/Natomas Run Club mamas at Shamrock’n on March 12!

This will be Erica's first 10k at Shamrock'n Sacramento. I'm so excited to see how she does after all the hard work she has put in this last session as well as past Run Club sessions.
