Mom of the Month: May 2021

Each month, we are celebrating a member of FIT4MOM West Sacramento/Natomas for her commitment to a healthy lifestyle and dedication to FIT4MOM.

This month, we are spotlighting soon to be mama of two! Meet our Mom of the Month for May: Sarah Ulansey.

Tell us about who is in your family!

My immediate family consists of my husband, Glenn, our two-year-old daughter, and a second baby on the way!

Where is your hometown?

I grew up in San Diego and Davis.

What is your career?

I worked at non-profits and in education technology until my daughter's birth and for now, I am home full-time.

How did you find FIT4MOM?

I first heard about FIT4MOM from some FIT4MOM Sacramento flyers at the Sutter Mother's Outlet mother/baby support group. I was excited to learn of an even closer chapter in West Sac.

How long have you been a member of FIT4MOM West Sacramento/Natomas and what has it done for you?

I became a FIT4MOM member in fall 2019. It has been a wonderful way to meet other moms, become part of a consistent local mom community, get to know our new city, and have a workout that I can adapt based on how I'm doing (or how my little one slept!). Plus, it's fun! :) Being part of FIT4MOM has made a huge difference in my early motherhood, especially during the Covid-19 shelter-in-place orders, when we seemed to come together even more to support each other.

What is your favorite class?

I love squats! I also like ending with affirmations because sometimes I'm feeling great and other times I really need the boost!

What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?

I have been surprised by how visceral motherhood is; even in the twenty-first century, those mama instincts and hormones come through STRONG!

What are 3 of your favorite things?

Chocolate, hiking, and swing dancing!

What is your proudest mommy moment so far?

I've enjoyed watching my daughter's joy and hearing her laughter as she masters more and more skills.

What advice would you give to a new mother?

You can do this! Take things one day at a time, listen to those who uplift you, and give yourself permission to tune out advice that does not fit you and your baby.

Anything else you'd like to add?

Come on out and join us!

We are so lucky to have Sarah in our village. It wouldn't be the same without her and her kiddo!
